Beaver Aerospace & Defense Upgrades Machining Center with 2 New 4-Axis ecoMill 1100 V Mori Seiki Machines

Livonia, Michigan – Beaver Aerospace & Defense, a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI) and global leader in the design and manufacturing of a broad-range of custom ball screws for commercial and military aircraft, announced today that it has upgraded its machining center with two new 4-axis ecoMill 1100 V Mori Seiki machines.

 

The mill machines produce up to 12,000 RPM of high-speed machining capabilities, with industry-leading .0001 tolerances. Both are equipped with direct drive rotary tables (DDRTs), allowing parts to be completed with a one-step setup process, and can handle parts up to 40” x 20”. In addition, both machines provide 30 tool slots and allow 3D designs to be loaded into the controls.

Metro-Detroit Youth

Livonia, Michigan – Beaver Aerospace & Defense, a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI) and global leader in the design and manufacturing of a broad-range of custom ball screws for commercial and military aircraft, announced today that it is partnering with Winning Futures to mentor Metro-Detroit area youth.

 

Winning Futures is an award-winning non-profit organization that empowers youth to succeed through mentoring and strategic planning. They partner with high schools in metro Detroit to facilitate innovative mentoring sessions in the school where they engage youth through trusting relationships with mentors, energizing experiences, and unforgettable life lessons. This weekly program is unique in that it has a fun, structured curriculum where mentors teach students through hands-on activities, written exercises, and group discussions. They focus on character value development, self-exploration, goal setting, job readiness skills, overcoming obstacles, and strategic planning. Over 95% of surveyed alumni continue their education past high school and they have awarded over $1.7M in scholarships to local youth. Since 1994, 39,000 students have been impacted by Winning Futures.

Beaver will utilize high-strength stainless steel for ball screw and ball nut to minimize corrosion

Livonia, Michigan – Beaver Aerospace & Defense, Inc., a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI) and global leader in the design and manufacturing of custom ball screws and broad-range actuation technologies, announced two new contracts today with Parker Aerospace, a business segment of Parker Hannifin Corporation and global leader in the design, manufacture and service of flight control systems and other aerospace systems and components. According to the contracts, Beaver will supply horizontal stabilizer ball screw assemblies for the Bombardier Global 7000 and Bombardier Global 8000 ultra-long-range jets. Beaver will utilize high-strength stainless steel for the ball screw and ball nut to minimize corrosion as an alternative to chrome plating.

Beaver Aerospace & Defense Part of Team Providing Aircraft, Training and Support for U.S. Air Force Light Air Support Mission

Beaver will supply trim actuators for A-29 Super Tucano Aircraft, supporting jobs and economic opportunity in Livonia, MI

Livonia, Michigan – Beaver Aerospace & Defense, Inc., a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI) and global leader in the design and manufacturing of custom and broad-range actuation technologies, today announced that it is part of the supplier network tapped by the U.S. Air Force under its recently awarded Light Air Support (LAS) contract. On February 28, 2013, the U.S. Air Force announced the selection of Sierra Nevada Corporation to supply aircraft for use by the Afghanistan National Army Air Corps and other future customers. The aircraft that will be provided is the Embraer A-29 Super Tucano. The aircraft will be used for conducting flight training, aerial reconnaissance and light air support operations and is a key element of U.S. government partner-building efforts in Afghanistan and other partner nations.

 

Under terms of the contract, Beaver will supply three trim actuators (elevator, rudder and aileron) for the A-29 Super Tucano. Built to withstand rigorous applications and demanding environments, Beaver’s electromechanical actuators (EMAs) are known throughout the industry for their impeccable quality, precision and performance.

The A-29 Super Tucano will be built in Jacksonville, FL by U.S. workers and with parts supplied by U.S. companies. Over 88 percent of the Super Tucano is made from parts supplied by U.S. companies, like Beaver Aerospace & Defense, or countries that qualify under the Buy America Act. Aircraft training will be provided in Clovis, NM. Beaver is among more than 100 U.S. suppliers in 20 states that will provide parts or services for the LAS program. Beaver Aerospace & Defense receives Boeing Performance Excellence Award

Livonia, Michigan – Beaver Aerospace & Defense, a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI) and global leader in the design and manufacture of custom and broad-range actuation technologies, today announced that it has received a 2012 Boeing Performance Excellence Award. The Boeing Company issues the award annually to recognize suppliers who have achieved superior performance. Beaver maintained a Silver composite performance rating for each month of the 12-month performance period, from Oct. 1, 2011, to Sept. 30, 2012.

This year, Boeing recognized 594 suppliers who achieved either a Gold or Silver level Boeing Performance Excellence Award. Beaver Aerospace & Defense is one of only 441 suppliers to receive the Silver level of recognition.
